Warhammer 40k @ Ebon Root

An Ebon Root campaign for new and experienced Warhammer 40,000 players! This campaign is designed to be an ongoing cascading set of encounters setup in a ladder-style campaign. It is geared for both the casual and hard-core gamer alike.

Campaign Background

Aeons ago war raged between the Eldar and the Necrons, lead by the C'tan. Monolithic fortresses were created by the Eldar in this battle known as the Talismans of Vaul. To capitalise on the Necron's vulnerability to warp attacks the fortresses were equipped with a warp-cannon that could create a devastating rip in space and an eruption of energy out of the Immaterium. Since that war and over the course of history, the various Fortresses were abandoned, left dormant througout the galaxy.

Six were eventually discovered and claimed by the Imperium in the Gothic sector. These were named Blackstone Fortresses, and used for defense througout the various star systems. Even though they could not be fully activated, the Imperium Navy used them as monolithic hardpoints.

However, during the Gothic War the Chaos Warmaster Abaddon managed to use a pair of ancient devices he had recovered to rouse the Fortresses and bring them completely under his control. As the war progressed and Abaddon acquired three Fortresses, he was able to combine their warp-cannon attacks to obliterate worlds and stars. At the end of the Gothic War, Abaddon retreated into the Eye of Terror with two activated Blackstones, while the remaining four in Imperial custody simultaneously disintegrated, leaving no known Blackstone Fortresses

Campaign Storyline

Recently, rumors of an undiscovered Blackstone Fortress have surfaced near Baal, the Blood Angel's homeworld. The Holy Inquisition has immediately controlled the rumors and begun a covert investigation. This has brought to light knowledge of Ancient Mysteria which, if pieced together properly, will not only disclose the location of this Blackstone Fortress but may also activate the Fortress! With the careful guidance of the Inquisition these Mysteria are to be gathered, all for the glory of the God Emperor!

This activity is not without notice, as the Eldar had long ago hidden and protected the Mysteria for this Talisman of Vaul. The reason is lost, but the cause still is just. The Mysteria now need to be reclaimed by the Eldar so they cannot fall into the hands of those who would mis-use the power of the Blackstone Fortress, be they Terran, Tau, Tyranid or otherwise. This is a pitched race to gather the enigmatic Mysteria, with the prize being a fortress of awesome power not seen since the Gothic War!

Campaign Structure

Scenarios are setup for two week intervals, you can play the scenario in the store or with your friends at home (weekly game nights are Tuesday in the store), and report your results back to us. The results of each scenario directly impact the setup of the next encounter, culminating in a large Gameday!

Furthermore, certificates are awarded to the forces for different victory conditions. Certificates vary from flavor for the award to unique items that can be brought into the next stage of the campaign.

The only costs involved are for the large Gameday, there is a $5 entrance fee (this goes to the awards for the final winners). The weekly encounters are free.

Note: The starting date for the campaign is up in the air. More information pending (we are waiting for critical mass of players)

Rules

  1. You can play any force, but you must stick with that force througout the campaign, unless you get special approval to switch forces (any certificates you have from the old force are non-transferrable).
  2. You must have enough models and figures to deploy between 1000 to 1500 points (different scenarios will be scaled to fit the various forces, as appropriate). Proxy models are allowed for up to half of your force, with prior approval. The specific point allocation varies by Encounter.
  3. You need to have the codex for the force(s) you are deploying.
  4. Models are encouraged to be painted, but it is not a requirement (this is not a Roguetrader Tournament).
  5. You do not need to play all of the prequel encounters, to be able to play in the Gameday May 6th. The results of the prequel encounters are adjusted for each player to figure the starting ranking for the Gameday. You must play at least one prequel encounter.
